Logan's Last Day

Logan's last day at University of Michigan Children's Center...

It was a bittersweet day. He made some friends and had amazing teachers here, but is on to bigger and better things.

He is now in school at Ann Arbor Preschool. It is a public preschool for special education. He is blossoming and changing drastically every day. He is receiving 25 hours per week of intensive intervention, which is what has been shown to be most beneficial for children with autism.

His teachers are amazing. We are truly blessed that we are where we are. Ann Arbor is one of the best public school systems in the nation. It is crazy to compare Logan's treatment to others outside of Ann Arbor.. For example, another girl that is in Logan's study at UM and is more severe than Logan, but does not live in Ann Arbor, only receives an hour and a half of intervention per week. It makes my heart break to see these children who are getting left behind. And here is Logan, in a classroom with 8 children and 6 teachers, 25 hours per week... Not just teachers, but all have degrees in Special Education and many have Master's and beyond. As well as a team of specialists that meets weekly to make new plans and goals for him.. Teacher Consultant, Speech and Language Pathologist, Psychologist, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist. The help available to him here is incredible.

Naptime.. Sorry it's sideways!

Dada came to play guitar for the class... Dancing with friends!

Logan's wonderful teachers... Amy, Emily and Ana

Bittersweet, but for the best.
